Ellis, De Ette Unruh, 1924-. Reminiscences of a WWII enlisted WAVE. Includes family, secretarial school and work at GM in Pontiac, Mich.; Reaction to Pearl Harbor bombing; Joined Navy in 1944; Patriotism and elder brother in the navy were motivating factors; Wrote articles on her experience as a WAVE for the Pontiac newspaper; Trained at USNTS (WR), Hunter College, Bronx, N.Y.; Attended Yeoman School at Stillwater, Okla.; Assigned to NYC; Conducted inventory at Bremerton, Wash., Navy Yard for five months; Returned to NYC and Pine Street separation office; Loved NYC; Visited Wil­liam Paley's apartment; Marriage in 1950; WAVES service, a positive experience.

Ellis was born in 1924 in Pretty Prairie, Kansas, attended secretarial school in Pontiac, MI and worked at General Motors before joining the Navy. She remained in New York, worked for a dress designer, and was married in 1950. At the time of recording, she lived in Newport, RI.
